A cat’s thyroid glands are located in the neck below the larynx. They are responsible for producing thyroid hormone, which regulates the metabolism.
Many older cats suffer from thyroid problems. Oftentimes cat owners attribute symptoms to “old age” but this is a treatable disease. You may see symptoms such as voracious appetite, weight loss, yowling, and vomiting. All cats seven years old or more must have annual blood tests to detect this problem early, so that it can be treated effectively with medication, surgery, or other therapy.
